๐Ÿ“ฆ Product & Component Overview

Products & Services module helps you manage everything you make, buy, sell, or consume in production.

๐Ÿท๏ธ Product Types

When creating a new item, youโ€™ll select one of the following types:

  • ๐Ÿ“ฆ Product โ€” Physical item (can be stocked)
  • โš™๏ธ Component โ€” Raw or semi-finished material used in manufacturing
  • ๐Ÿงพ Service โ€” Intangible offering (e.g., design fee, delivery)

Each type can have:

  • โœ… Buy and/or sell status
  • ๐Ÿ“Š Stock management (enabled for products/components)
  • ๐Ÿ’ธ Cost and selling price
  • ๐Ÿ”ข Product codes, barcodes, and categories

๐Ÿ” Usage Across Modules

Products and components are reused across many functions:

  • ๐Ÿ—๏ธ In Bill of Materials (BOM) for defining product structure
  • ๐Ÿ“ฅ In Purchase Orders for raw material procurement
  • ๐Ÿ›’ In Sales Orders for customer delivery
  • ๐Ÿ“ฆ In Stock Management for tracking inventory levels
  • ๐Ÿ’ฐ In Cost Calculation for production and profit analysis

๐Ÿ“Ž Stockable vs Non-stockable

  • ๐ŸŸข Stockable items: have inventory tracking (quantity in/out, warehouses)
  • ๐Ÿ”ด Non-stockable items: do not track stock (used for services, or virtual items)

Choose this carefully when defining a product โ€” it affects how stock and cost behave in the system.

๐ŸŽฏ Best Practices

  • Use clear product codes and names for consistency
  • Group items using categories for easier reporting
  • Activate lot/batch tracking if needed for traceability
  • Link vendors to components for purchase price history
